Adult smokers who replaced cigarettes with e-cigarettes reported better health and quality of life. That’s what a recent study by researchers at the University of Washington found.
Vape works by a heating liquid in a tube and turning it into steam. Aside from the shape, the basic difference between the two cigarettes is the tobacco content. Vape does not contain tobacco like traditional cigarettes. Also, it has become standard that e-cigarettes are safer than cigarettes.
USC addiction researcher Adam Leventhal is a co-author of a study on teens and vaping.
“E-cigarettes are indeed marketed as a safe alternative to smoking, and the working mechanism is a vaping device that vaporizes the nicotine liquid in the cartridge,” said Tjandra Yoga Aditama, head of the Health Research and Development Authority (Balitbangkes) of the Ministry of Health in a press release.
Electronic cigarettes are nicotine delivery devices, commonly called e-cigarettes. These devices are inhaled using the nicotine-containing liquid, commonly known as “e-liquid.”
Another study showed that e-cigarettes had lower nicotine levels than tobacco cigarettes and did not contain harmful chemicals such as tar or other toxic substances caused by burning tobacco.

This study monitored smokers’ health and social functioning changes in two phases when they were 30 and 39 years old. Of 156 participants, 36 percent switched to e-cigarettes by age 39.
As a result, those who switched to e-cigarettes were reported to have better health than when they were still smoking traditional cigarettes.
The researchers found that these smokers had better physical health, exercised more, and were more socially active.
This is thought to be because e-cigarettes have less stigma, less smell, and are less harmful to the body than regular cigarettes.
From there, vapers also have the opportunity to engage in more physical activity and interact with more people, including non-smokers.
“Despite the obvious risks, e-cigarettes do have the potential to play a role in improving the health of smokers,” said Marina Epstein, a researcher at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work.
However, the researchers emphasized that this does not mean that e-cigarettes are healthy. However, e-cigarettes can be linked to a healthier daily life and lifestyle for smokers who cannot quit.
